Exclusive-ASML CEO sees tight supply in booming chip market as AI demand soars

The booming global semiconductor market will be "tense" with tight supply for the foreseeable future, the head of chip-making machine giant ASML told Reuters, with demand from AI, satellites and robots outpacing what the industry can produce. In a rare ‌interview on the sidelines of a tech event in Antwerp, ASML Chief Executive Christophe Fouquet said that there would likely be sporadic bottlenecks ‌throughout the supply chain of the chip market which could hit $1.5 trillion by 2030. "Demand on AI is coming so strongly that we will be in a supply-limited market for quite a while," Fouquet said, citing plans like Elon Musk's huge proposed "TeraFab" AI plan and Starlink satellites as potentially driving a new leg of demand.

How Bad Would the Bond Selloff Have to Get for Trump to Change Course?

The selloff in U.S. government bonds has paused for now, but it’s gotten Wall Street to ask: How much more turmoil would it take to push President Trump to soften his stance on Iran? The textbook example took place in April last year, when a messy sell-off in the bond market led Trump to pause sweeping tariffs on dozens of countries. “Judging by the post-'Liberation Day’ episode last spring, market conditions might need to get considerably worse to generate a similar full-scale retreat,” Capital Economics wrote in a research note Tuesday.

Lam Research opens Austria lab to advance chip packaging, cut costs

Lam Research has opened a research lab in Salzburg, Austria, to advance a chip packaging technology ‌that promises to increase chip density and cut costs, ‌as the company looks to capitalize on surging AI demand for processors. The U.S. chipmaking tools supplier said on Wednesday that the Salzburg facility will focus on panel-level packaging, which replaces the semiconductor industry's traditional circular silicon wafers with square panels.
