The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 22 points, after rallying at the open. Optical networking and chip stocks were also rallying. Consumer discretionary, communication services, materials, energy, and health care were the laggards, while tech, real estate, and utilities were leading at the sector level.
Software and chip stocks were stuck in a tug-of-war for the Nasdaq on Monday, and chips were winning. With the Nasdaq Composite down 0.4%, the iShares Semiconductor ETF was off 1.4%. On the flip side, the iShares Expanded Tech-Software Sector ETF was up 2.
Stock market leadership just flipped. The Nasdaq Composite rose 0.1% after opening lower. Driving the Nasdaq’s move was a sharp turnaround in chip stocks; the iShares Semiconductor ETF rallied 1.8% after opening sharply lower.
