Fed Rate Hike Odds Fall As Amazon Prime Day Effect Hits Retail Sales

The Federal Reserve now looks somewhat unlikely to raise interest rates at either of the next two meetings after a weak July retail sales report further assuaged concerns that the economy may be overheating. Last Friday's weak jobs report and the even weaker retail sales report "are bad news for workers and consumers, but potentially good news for the stock market, because it reduces the urgency at the Fed to raise rates to fight too-high inflation," wrote Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment officer at Northlight Asset Management.

8-13-2026: Tight Ranges, Falling Yields + AI Compute Financing

Eric Criscuolo, Market Strategist at the NYSE, reviews a quiet week on Wall Street marked by tight trading ranges, cooling inflation, and a major new AI financing development. The S&P 500 consolidated near all-time highs before breaking through 7,800 for the first time on Thursday, lifted in part by Nvidia's partnership with major Wall Street firms to launch a $500 billion compute financing platform. In-line CPI and a cooler-than-expected PPI pushed yields lower across the curve, with the long end finally joining the downtrend. Looking ahead, markets will turn their attention to FOMC meeting minutes, August Flash PMIs, and earnings from consumer and housing bellwethers including Walmart, Home Depot, and Deere.

Walmart (WMT) Stock Could Be Pricey After The Salad Recall

Walmart stock has delivered a strong 151.4% return over the past five years, yet the latest Discounted Cash Flow (DCF) estimate points to the shares trading at a premium to intrinsic value, while market based multiples suggest pricing that is closer to fair. Over the past five years, a 151.4% total return highlights how much of Walmart's long term value story may already be reflected in the share price. Walmart's dominant grocery position and partnerships that support better inventory...

Russell Index Removal Could Be A Game Changer For Teladoc Health’s (TDOC) Investment Narrative

In late June 2026, Teladoc Health, Inc. was removed from multiple Russell growth and small-cap benchmarks after a period of flat sales and ongoing losses, even as it maintained a large global member base and expanded partnerships with Walmart and the National Basketball Players Association. At the same time, insider share sales, index removals and a risk-off reaction to rising bond yields contrasted with a separate view that Teladoc’s discounted cash flow valuation suggests its shares may be...
