June 22 (Reuters) - U.S. stock index futures started the week on a subdued note, after Friday's public holiday, with investors monitoring developments in U.S.-Iran talks following a tense start.
Iran and the U.S. agreed to the creation of a mechanism to ensure the termination of military operations in Lebanon, The Wall Street Journal reported mediators as saying. This came after Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz again over the weekend, accusing the U.S. and Israel of breaking cease-fire conditions. Qatar and Pakistan–the two mediators in the peace talks in Switzerland–said a line of communication between Iran and the U.S. had been formed to avoid incidents and enable safe passage for commercial vessels through the waterway, which is a crucial shipping route for oil.
