<body><p>STORY: Shares of Boeing rose as much as five percent Tuesday morning after releasing quarterly results that showed its turnaround plans are gaining momentum.</p><p>It posted a larger-than-expected quarterly loss but generated positive free cash flow, which it attributed in part to higher customer payments than anticipated.</p><p>Much of the loss came from a $280 million charge due to higher engineering costs to ensure it delivers two delayed Air Force One plane replacements in 2028.&nbsp;</p><p>Boeing signed a $3.9 billion fixed-price contract in 2018 for the 747 jets that is now four years behind schedule and more than $1 billion over budget.</p><p>On a per-share basis, the quarterly loss was wider than expected but smaller than the same quarter a year earlier.</p><p>The U.S. planemaker is maintaining its guidance of $1 billion to $3 billion in free cash flow for the year, which would be its first positive result since 2023, as it increases production of its best-selling 737 MAX narrow-body jets.</p></body>
