<body><p>STORY: Samsung Electronics and its union didn't reach a pay deal on Wednesday, which risked a massive strike.</p><p>The update followed long government-mediated talks on Monday and Tuesday.</p><p>Any industrial action could impact the wider South Korean economy.</p><p>The country's authorities were so concerned they called an emergency meeting.</p><p>Prime Minister Kim Min-seok told the government to closely manage the situation and encourage more dialogue&nbsp;to prevent a strike.</p><p>Samsung shares fell as much as 6% after the news broke, but&nbsp;later traded up 1% after the update of the ministerial meeting.</p><p>Rival SK Hynix saw its stock surge 7%.</p><p>It was helped by market views it could profit from Samsung's labor issues, and expectations it will list in the U.S later this year.</p><p>Samsung's union is angry over what it calls a massive gap in bonus pay with SK Hynix.</p><p>It has planned an 18-day strike from May 21 if its demand aren't met.</p><p>The union has warned more than 50,000 workers could walk off the job.</p><p>That would likely delay shipments to customers and further push up chip prices.</p><p>The union has called for an end to a cap on bonus pay currently set at 50% of annual base salary.</p><p>It also wants the allocation of 15% of annual operating profit to bonus pay and more clarity on how bonuses are calculated.</p><p>The union said it has no plans to resume talks before the strike date.</p><p>But added it would consider "a proper proposal" if the company presents one.</p><p>Samsung said it regretted the collapse of talks and will continue to have "sincere dialogue" with the union to stop what it called a worst-case scenario.</p></body>

<body><p>STORY: From Dua Lipa suing Samsung to a robotic Buddhist monk... this is Tech Weekly.</p><p>:: Tech Weekly</p><p>British pop star Dua Lipa filed a lawsuit against Samsung, where she seeks at least $15 million in damages...</p><p>She's accused the South Korean tech giant of using her image without permission to market its television sets.</p><p>Lawyers argued it helped the company benefit from what seemed like her endorsement of the product.</p><p>A spokesperson for Samsung declined to comment.</p><p>A UK startup says its built an AI 'brain' which can teach humanoid robots new skills in days rather than months.</p><p>The London-based firm Humanoid believes they could soon see the droids put to work in factories and warehouses.</p><p>That so-called artificial "brain" helps the robot understand what it sees, process instructions and control its body.</p><p>Artem Sokolov is Humanoid's CEO.</p><p>"We train, we build our own proprietary VLA model - vision-language-action model - that help the robot do different tasks in the real world with human speed."&nbsp;</p><p>South Korea's first humanoid robot monk made its official debut at a Buddhist temple in Seoul.</p><p>It came ahead of the Buddha's birthday.</p><p>The robot, called Gabi, wore a traditional grey-and-brown Buddhist robe with black shoes.</p><p>It also folded its hands and bowed to monks in charge of the ceremony.</p><p>Nintendo shares slumped after investors sold off.</p><p>The Switch 2 maker's outlook for the year underwhelmed the market.</p><p>Nintendo also said it would raise prices of its Switch 2.</p><p>But analysts argue its casual gaming audience is seen as particularly sensitive to such hikes.</p><p>Rival Sony saw its shares fly up by a tenth.</p><p>The PlayStation 5 maker had forecast lower sales but higher profit at its gaming business.</p><p>One analyst said Sony was in a better position than Nintendo to pass the rising costs of memory chips to consumers.</p><p>Sony also said it was planning a new joint venture to develop and make image sensors in Japan with TSMC as it tries to control costs.</p></body>
