Most Stocks Gained, but Chip Selloff Drags Market

The Nasdaq, the S&P 500, and the Dow ended Thursday's session lower, but if you take a closer look, most of the market is actually holding up all right. The tech-heavy Nasdaq saw the most dramatic declines since tech stocks led the selloff, down 1.5%. The S&P 500 fell 0.5% and the Dow dropped 0.2% or 105 points.

All three major indexes were in the red midday and tech stocks were leading the fall. The Nasdaq slipped 1.1% and the S&P 500 dropped 0.5%. The Dow also was lower, down 0.3% or 158 points. Chip stocks are the standout laggard of the day, with the PHLX Semiconductor index down 5%, extending yesterday's declines.
