Apple to spend $30 billion on US-made chips from Broadcom

STORY: ::Apple is spending $30 billion in Broadcom chips deal

::Stephen Nellis/Technology Correspondent

::July 8, 2026

"Apple and Broadcom on Wednesday announced a $30 billion deal that runs through 2031 for Broadcom to supply chips to Apple. Now, this isn't a completely new relationship between Apple, the maker of the iPhone and the iPad, and Broadcom, one of its longtime suppliers. In 2023, the two companies said that they had a multibillion, multiyear deal to supply chips from a factory in Fort Collins, Colorado to Apple. But what this is a major expansion of that partnership. So Apple will be getting 15 billion chips from that factory in Colorado, and Broadcom is saying that it will spend $1.5 billion to expand and modernize its manufacturing capacity there. For Apple, this is part of a broader push in the last few years to source more of the critical components in its iPhones and other products from the United States. Now, this has been a big focus of U.S. President Donald Trump, who really wants to see Apple make an iPhone in the United States. Well, that's probably not possible in the short term, according to most analysts. What is possible is sourcing more and more of the critical pieces inside the devices from the United States, regardless of where they're assembled. And that's a big part of what this represents for the deal between Apple and Broadcom announced on Wednesday."

Broadcom shares rose more than 4%, while Apple shares were down marginally.

Apple said on Wednesday the deal, which was struck earlier this week and runs through 2031, covers FBAR filters - or radio-frequency chips used for wireless connectivity in its devices - that it had been developing with Broadcom since at least 2023.

Broadcom (NASDAQ: AVGO) and Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) both posted strong quarters, but the more interesting story sits in the contract between them. That single fact reframes how these two NASDAQ names ... Broadcom Vs. Apple: AVGO Just Locked in Apple Through 2031 Which is Why You Should Buy it Over AAPL
