U.S. President Donald Trump said ‌on Wednesday that he expects top artificial ‌intelligence companies to agree to "giving back" to the public, an apparent ​reference to a possible government stake in the firms. "I'm going to have meetings with the top 12 or 15 executives very shortly, and we're talking about giving back ‌something to the ⁠public, and if we do that, the public will become very rich," Trump told ⁠reporters in the White House’s Oval Office. A Trump spokesperson did not ​immediately respond to ​a request for more details about the ‌president meeting with AI executives.

Uber Technologies sued New York City to block enforcement of a new law that it said would unconstitutionally force ‌it to keep drivers it does not want on its platform. In a complaint filed ‌late on Tuesday night, Uber said the law against "wrongful deactivations" would improperly shield drivers who engage in dangerous, threatening ​or other inappropriate behavior, threatening public safety and causing "immediate and irreparable harm" by undermining the company's reputation and goodwill. It said the law violates its free-speech and due-process rights under the U.S. Constitution, as well as New York's state constitution.
