Intel is planning to raise $15 billion through a share sale, the U.S. chipmaker said on Monday as it looks to fund the costly build-out of its chip contract manufacturing business by cashing in on a stock surge fueled by its turnaround efforts. Once the dominant force in the global chip industry, Intel is investing heavily in new facilities and advanced packaging capabilities as it seeks to challenge industry leader such as TSMC in contract chip manufacturing. Its shares fell more than 3% in premarket trading, likely on concerns about shareholder dilution from the stock sale.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Ltd. (NYSE:TSM) reported a sharp increase in July revenue on Monday, extending strong growth from a year earlier. The chipmaker reported consolidated revenue of approximately 467.58 billion New Taiwan dollars for July, up 44.7% from 323.17 billion New Taiwan dollars in the same month last year. Sony Group and Taiwan's TSMC plan to spend around 1 trillion yen ($6.32 billion) to jointly make next-generation microchips used in image sensors, the Nikkei business daily said on Monday. A joint venture owned about 60% by Sony and 40% by TSMC will start commercial production as early as 2029 in southern Japan's Kumamoto prefecture, the paper said. The two tech giants said in May they planned to form a joint venture in Japan to develop and manufacture next-generation image sensors, combining Sony's sensor design expertise with TSMC's manufacturing and process technology strengths.
