Tesla stock bounced on Tuesday as CEO Elon Musk reminded investors about where his EV company started and how far it’s come. Don’t expect SpaceX to follow the same trajectory even as Musk tries to justify SpaceX’s valuation. The move came after Musk tweeted that Tesla’s IPO market cap was only 0.1% of its current market cap.
The work stoppage at the Dauch Corp. plant—still commonly known by its former name, American Axle —halts the supply of axles and axle tubes destined for GM’s midsize and full-size pickup trucks. If GM’s existing stockpile of the crucial parts runs out, the automaker won’t be able to make some of its best-selling and most lucrative vehicles. A fire-damaged aluminum rolling plant in upstate New York that supplies Ford Motor and other automakers will return to service in the next few weeks, its owner said Tuesday. The restart of the Oswego, N.Y., Novelis plant is running slightly ahead of the company’s earlier target for restarting the plant at the end of June, the company said. Ford, which is the U.S. auto industry’s biggest user of aluminum, said in April it expected Oswego’s rolling line to restart this month.
The moves reflect the automaker’s push to expand beyond traditional vehicle manufacturing into software, services and energy infrastructure. Shares rise.
