Ferrari shares plunge after debut EV shocks fans

<body><p>STORY: Ferrari shares plunged on Tuesday after the brand’s first electric vehicle got a cool response from fans, and investors.</p><p>The Luce is a radical departure for the luxury car maker.</p><p>Besides being electric, the five-seat sedan bears little or no resemblance to Ferraris of the past.</p><p>It drew a downbeat reception from many on social media, with Italy’s deputy prime minister even weighing in.</p><p>Matteo Salvini said “it looks nothing like a Ferrari. Is this supposed to be innovation?”</p><p>Former Ferrari executive Luca di Montezemolo called it a “betrayal” of the firm’s history.</p><p>Shares in the firm eventually closed down by over 8% amid the controversy.</p><p>Though some tried to sound positive.</p><p>One portfolio manager told Reuters that the car could appeal to a niche selection of buyers.</p><p>They would certainly have to be rich though, with the Luce priced at around $640,000.</p><p>Deliveries are expected to begin in the fourth quarter, and Ferrari hopes the model will help it win new customers beyond its traditional fan base.</p><p>That includes in China, where EVs are capturing a growing share of premium car sales.</p></body>

NASA awarded contracts to space firms including Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin and ‌Astrolab to send robotic landers, rovers and ‌drones to support the upcoming lunar exploration missions. The U.S. space ​agency said on Tuesday it had awarded Astrolab $219 million and Lunar Outpost $220 million to build and deliver lunar terrain vehicles. Blue Origin was awarded a $188 million ‌contract to deliver ⁠the rovers to the moon's surface using its uncrewed cargo lunar lander, Mark ⁠1.
