Amazon’s AWS commits $1 billion toward new unit for embedded AI engineers

Amazon said on Tuesday it is creating a new division under its Amazon Web Services cloud unit employing so-called forward-deployed ‌engineers who embed with customers to help them more quickly and efficiently adopt artificial ‌intelligence software. The company is committing an initial $1 billion to the initiative with the goal of sending five to six ​pods of engineers to customers for 45-day periods, said Francessca Vasquez, AWS vice president of frontier AI engineering and services. Forward-deployed engineers are versatile workers ⁠who embed directly alongside clients, navigate internal politics and write production-grade code to help make models deliver results.

Australia sues Amazon unit over alleged breach via Prime Video ads

Australia's competition regulator said on Tuesday it has taken Amazon's ‌Australian unit to court, alleging its ‌Prime subscription contracts contained unfair terms that allowed the ​company to add advertising to Prime Video. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) alleged that between November 2023 and August 2025, Amazon Australia ‌used unfair Prime ⁠contract terms to make negative changes for over 1 million annual ⁠subscribers without offering compensation. After July 2024, subscribers who wanted to maintain ad-free streaming had ​to pay ​an additional A$2.99 ​per month.
