Hedge funds sold broader tech ahead of SpaceX IPO, JPMorgan data shows

Hedge funds sold out of the biggest U.S. tech stocks, and some even added ‌bearish positions, according to data from a JPMorgan note late ‌Thursday, just before SpaceX was set to go public on Friday. Shares in the "Magnificent Seven" -- a group that includes some of the biggest tech names on Wall Street, namely Nvidia, Apple, Amazon.com, Alphabet, Meta, Tesla, and Microsoft, have all declined since last Friday. The Roundhill Magnificent Seven ETF, which tracks these ‌stocks closely, declined over 2.4% since June 5, with some analysts saying investors were clearing their decks in order to prepare for the debut of Elon Musk's Space X on Friday.

After record IPO, Musk's SpaceX faces next test in market debut

SpaceX is set to begin trading on Nasdaq on Friday after investors poured $75 billion into the world's biggest IPO ever, betting that Elon Musk's lofty space, communications and AI ambitions can justify a $1.77 trillion valuation. The landmark listing cemented Musk's status as the first trillionaire ever and ‌propelled SpaceX into the ranks of the world's most valuable companies - even though the firm posted a loss of nearly $5 billion last year and generated only a fraction of ‌the revenue brought in by similarly valued tech giants. The stock's performance will be a test for the so-called "Musk premium," which has been the force behind Tesla's $1 trillion-plus valuation.

Elon Musk's SpaceX prices record $75 bln IPO at $135 a share

<body><p>STORY: SpaceX has officially priced its stock market listing at $135 per share.</p><p>The IPO has raised a record $75 billion for the rockets and AI firm, and sees it valued at $1.77 trillion.</p><p>That immediately makes it one of the world’s most valuable firms, and makes founder Elon Musk the world’s first trillionaire.</p><p>Shares in the company will now begin trading Friday (June 12) on the Nasdaq.</p><p>Whether $135 is the right price, however, that’s another matter.</p><p>Morningstar analyst Nicolas Owens is among those who think&nbsp;it looks high:</p><p>“We value it at $63 a share, which is the blended average of a range of scenarios that can be as high as $154 if you believe everything will go right and data centers in space are highly competitive. Or as low as a $40 a share if you really are just getting the rockets and Starlink, and the AI doesn't work out, so to speak.”</p><p>Owens says everything will have to go perfectly for SpaceX in future years to justify the sky-high valuation.</p><p>That includes its pledge to dominate industries that don’t even exist yet, such as data centers in space.</p><p>If the share price does fall, many small investors will feel the pain, with 30% of the offering reserved for retail buyers.</p><p>That’s far more than normal for a major IPO, and likely a move to capitalize on Musk’s cult-like following.</p><p>Morningstar’s Owens argues investors should wait to see how the company fares:&nbsp;</p><p>"Everyone will be monitoring these operational milestones around Starship reusability, the commercial model for data centers in space. And so, as you get more information on those, could be good, could be bad, but, we think it's probable that investors would have a better margin of safety at some future point.”</p><p>Other concerns include Musk’s unusual dominance over decision-making.&nbsp;</p><p>The IPO has been structured to give him 82% of voting power, leaving shareholders with little say.</p><p>SpaceX also remains unprofitable, having posted a loss of close to $5 billion last year.</p><p>While its Starlink satellite internet business is in the black, its AI unit is deep in the red amid huge costs to develop the new technology.</p><p>So far, however, none of that seems to have worried Musk’s eager investors.</p></body>

He Left SpaceX to Change How Homes Are Built

America's lumber supply is one trade dispute or one bad storm away from sending home construction costs surging by thousands of dollars. A startup in North Carolina thinks grass is the fix.*It's a good time to break into infrastructure. Here's 7 businesses you can start:* https://clickhubspot.com/d2ntPlantd was founded by former SpaceX engineers who set out to replace oriented strand board — the structural panels that wrap the walls, floors, and roofs of nearly every home built in the US — with panels made from a perennial grass that grows six inches a day and can be harvested twice a year. Their boards are independently certified for use in all 50 states and, according to their own testing, are 1.5x stronger and 2x more moisture resistant than standard softwood OSB. D.R. Horton, the largest homebuilder in the country, has already ordered 10 million of them. The catch: at 250k panels a year, that order alone would take 40 years to fill.
